Serial candidate Steve Mav has again popped his head up for election, this time hoping to be a Tasmanian candidate for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party.
Mr Mav has a colourful history of political activity, including as a former member of the Liberal Party in Tasmania and a failed attempt to start his own party.
Liberal Senator for Tasmania Jonno Duniam said some questions need to be answered to determine if Mr Mav is fit to run for public office yet again.
“I commend Mr Mav for his continued efforts to contribute to political debate in this country, but I think it’s high time Mr Mav answered questions about his dealings with the Gumala Aboriginal Corporation in Western Australia,” Senator Duniam said.
“Claims made publicly regarding his handling of finances, personal expenses met by the Corporation and indeed his management of staff are highly concerning.
“Mr Mav is seeking to represent the people of this state and I think it only right that he explain fully any issues surrounding his time as the Chief Executive of the Gumala Aboriginal Corporation.
“If there is nothing to hide, I’m sure Mr Mav will publicly clear this matter up.”
