I am a proud sixth generation Tasmanian with strong family roots in the North West of Tasmania. Married with three sons, I live in the state’s south, just outside of Hobart and enjoy getting out into our local communities to see the fantastic work of the many unsung heroes who often go unnoticed.
As a father and a passionate Tasmanian, I am excited about future opportunities and potential of our state. Tasmania has so much to offer, which is now being discovered nationally and internationally, and I want to see our young people stay in the state and build their careers and families here, rather than move interstate after graduating from school, TAFE or university. I have worked in the public service all my career and have been close to the policy making process, formerly working for Premier Will Hodgman, as his Deputy Chief of Staff, at the time of the historic 2014 state election win.
By getting out and about in the community I have a strong insight into what is important to Tasmanians. My job is all about listening and fixing problems, in securing results for our state in Canberra. That is what my focus will always be – I will be judged on my deeds, not just my words. In addition to my public service experience I also have small business experience, having worked to establish a large child care centre in Hobart with my wife and family, which has now grown to employ over 30 Tasmanians.
