Assistant Minister Jonno Duniam will take on a new role as Assistant Minister for Industry Development, in addition to his existing appointment as Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries.

“I would like to thank the Prime Minister for his confidence, and for trusting me with this greater responsibility in the Morrison Ministry,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.

“This is an exceptional opportunity to play a critical role in shaping the way that our country rebuilds stronger, as we recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Australian industry will be central to our nation’s economic future, it will create jobs that will not only drive our COVID recovery but new opportunities for generations to come.

“We have extraordinary capacity as a nation to unlock opportunity in the challenges that the global pandemic has created, and I look forward to working with industry to seize every one of these.

“There is also an important synergy between industry development and forestry and fisheries, which will ensure we can continue to future-proof these vital industries that are the backbone of so many regional communities across Australia.

“I look forward to working with the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews, and in lock-step with industry, to support Australia’s comeback.

“I would also like to thank those incredible Australians who shape regional tourism across the country, it has been a privilege to work alongside you – it has been an exceptionally challenging time, but the industry has risen to each challenge with an inspiriting determination.

“As a Senator for Tasmania, I remain passionate and committed to ensuring our tourism industry continues to grow.

“I’m extremely grateful to have this opportunity to play a role in shaping Australia’s future in the wake of COVID, today and for future generations.”
