The reported arrival of six Chinese nationals in remote Western Australia is another shocking indictment of the Albanese Government’s border management, Shadow Home Affairs Minister Jonno Duniam says.
“At least eight boats have now illegally reached the Australian mainland as part of at least 37 attempts since Labor came to Government. The Albanese Government are failing at our borders,” Senator Duniam said.
“Illegal arrivals are ticking up again under the Albanese Government. People smugglers know that Labor are always weak on managing Australia’s borders and are escalating their trade.”
It should also be noted that, upon coming to government, there was a 20 per cent decrease in aerial surveillance hours under Labor compared to the Coalition’s tenure in government.
“How can Australians be certain that they will be kept safe if our government has reduced surveillance hours on our borders?” Senator Duniam asked.
“Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke, and the Albanese Government as a whole do not take this issue seriously and people are slipping through the cracks.”
“The Labor Government need to stop further illegal incursions at our borders.”
