Waiver of housing debt to help Tasmanians in need

The Morrison Government is taking action to help those doing it tough with Tasmania’s historic housing debt to be waived.

There is no doubt that Tasmania’s strong growth has created challenges around housing affordability and homelessness in recent years, and today’s announcement will be very welcome news for those Tasmanians doing it tough.

Waiving the debt will save the Tasmanian Government over $230 million in repayments and interest until 2041-42, and importantly all of this will be put directly back into increasing the supply of affordable housing.

The Tasmanian Liberal Senate team has worked hard to deliver this great outcome and it demonstrates the benefits of the Morrison and Hodgman Governments working together to help Tasmania’s most vulnerable.
