Tourism continues to shine in Tasmania

Tasmania’s tourism industry continues to perform strongly according to the latest statistics released today.

The International Visitors Survey shows growth in key visitor markets including Malaysia and Hong Kong as well as double digit growth in the number of visitors to Tasmania from the United States.

While the number of international visitors to Tasmania has stabilised on the back of unprecedented and nation leading growth over the past four years, seeing growth in these key markets is good news.

The 12 per cent growth in visitors from the USA is a great result, with Tasmania now starting to become a destination of choice for the lucrative US market.

It demonstrates the value of the Morrison Government’s continued record investment in Tourism Australia, who continues to deliver cutting-edge marketing campaigns, including the highly touted Dundee campaign which targeted travellers from the US.

Tasmania’s very own Freycinet played a starring role in this campaign, which was watched by over 100 million Americans during last year’s Super Bowl.

It’s a great vote of confidence in our tourism industry and confirms our state has unique experiences that travellers want.

These fantastic results are mirrored across the country, with a record number of international visitors to Australia in the year to June 2019.

The Morrison Government will continue to back our $143 billion tourism industry which is vital to regional communities across Australia and also employs 1 in 13 Australians.
